Date : 4th August 2018 Venue : Twenty20Two 1 anthology. 2 volumes. 1 staging. 8 artists. |
Last Saturday, Zahidah and I attended an event by RIPTA, a special staging adapted from the anthology of prose and poetry 'Hujan Bakawali di Rumah Tuhan'. Guess what? This is not our first time. Last year, we both attended the first event by RIPTA, Kamar Rahsia 'Untuk Yang Telah Pergi'. #supportive #dakdakdeep (How funny, I haven't 'met' my husband yet during the last event, and now I'm married and still going to this kind of event.)
It has become a tradition of RIPTA, for every published anthology, its readers will surely be celebrated through an intimate event. This time around, a special staging was organized with the purpose of to "bring prose and poetry out of the book". The 8 writers were paired to raise their poems out of the book and continue on stage. The ideas and concepts of offerings are divided into four, namely poetry through visuals, poetry through drama, poetry through dance, and poetry through music. The shows were alternated with a casual talk about books with the host, Jamal Raslan.

The book 'Hujan Bakawali di Rumah Tuhan' is an anthology prose and poetry twinned (two volumes). It was written by seven Malaysian poets and an Indonesian poet. The theme is a secret, prayer, and hope regardless of religion or belief.
Zahidah and I at the front of Twenty20Two |
1. Poetry through visuals by Adam Hazin & Karl Agan
We were a little bit late, so we sat at the back at first. I was clueless because it was so dark. And I know nothing (and expect nothing) regarding the event. Karl Agan wasn't there, but they were showing black and white videos with nice background music. Then Adam Hazin started to read his poetry. I like his interview, there was so much input. I love how he said that poetry is emotion. And how he wanted to express his emotions with harmony, not with hatefulness. And how poetry is so personal. Everyone can write a poetry!
I love this performance the most. I almost cried. It was so beautiful and heart wrenching at the same time. I love Umila Rahman #fangirling She talked about how she wrote the poetry during her pregnancy and the born of her baby phase. Maybe I should write a poetry now. And Mosyuki Borhan words is always beautiful.
3. Poetry through dance by Rachmat Hidayat & Wani Ardy
I love the vibes, Rachmat Hidayat is so positive and glowing while Wani Ardy words is just pure beautiful. This is new. I never watched poetry through dance before.
4. Poetry through music by AK Kelana & Aisyah Rais
It was dark most of the time. But when they started to perform their poetry, it was beautiful.
I love the idea of poetry through so much mediums. I didn't know before. I thought poetry is only supposed to be on paper. They should do this again. Poetry is so beautiful in its own way.
Praying for more poetry in this world,
AS
